I have been teaching on Kauai for over 30 years after relocating here from New York. I have successfully instructed students from early childhood (as young as four years of age) through older adults. I hold Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees.
My students have competed and won state competitions, including Honolulu Youth Symphony concerto competitions, achieved the prestigious National Piano Guild “Critics’ Circle”, have performed for master class artists including Ursula Oppens, Robert Taub, Boris Konovalov and Ian Parker, have continued their music education in universities and conservatories as music majors; have become performers, composers and educators.
Each summer, I stay updated on the latest information in the field of teaching by attending outstanding conferences and seminars throughout the country, such as Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy (NCKP), International Choral Symposium, many other choral and church music seminars.
With degrees in composition, I have composed works for piano, voice, chamber music and orchestral works, Tthe Honolulu Symphony has played two of my orchestral compositions.
I have accompanied many singers and instrumentalists, directed handbell and children’s choirs, have been musical director and pianist for many musicals, vacation Bible schools, church cantatas, and have organized performances for student pianists in addition to performing as soloist in recitals myself.
As Director of the Kauai Chorale, I have organized and conducted choral concerts including Handel’s Messiah, Vivaldi Gloria, John Rutter “Magnficat”and Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms as well as more “pop” concerts, such as Broadway tunes and songs throughout the decades. I have studied conducting with several renowned teachers including Donal Neuen.
I have received scholarships from ASCAP and was awarded YWCA Woman of the Year in the Arts.
